COME ON, PEACE! A POEM
Come on, PEACE!
I call on you.
For how long will you remain asleep
When you are desperately needed
Please rise from your deepest slumber
Stretch and yawn and look far and miles yonder
And be the water long awaited in places where your absence
Is a huge gully of thirst so weary from yearning for your presence
Come on, Peace!
You are not shortsighted
Neither are you truly incapacitated
I believe in your power and ability to rise beyond a valley
Like eruptions that make a tsunami
And rise above human machinations that keep you down and out
Keeping you frail
Like an old crinkly human body that has failed
I know you know what i mean
Come on, PEACE!
Don’t pretend to not know
I don’t really get along with hypocrites
You know me
I am blunt
I say it like it is
And have no patience for that nonsense
The father and mother of all lies called political correctness
I like to say it like it is
You know these:
Sales of weapons
Faith without reason dangerously brewed as fundamentalism
Tribalism
Corrupt leadership
Sickening victim-hood mentality
Dirty politics
Lawless laws at the mercy of the politically privileged
And the politically powerful
Laws with shark-teeth sharpness for the poor and the helpless Not sparing the hapless
Power hunger
Nations’ reckless natural-resource-fulled unjustified territorial ambitions
Come on, PEACE!
You know where i’m going
Staying glued to political power through threats of the gun
Through gory dictatorial travesty nicknamed democratic elections
That silence dissident voices in search of their rightful justice
Turning countries into mass graves rich in pungent deathly stench
Come on, PEACE!
Greed
Gross unfairness
Vestiges of neocolonialism
Blatant deceptive self denial by even many educated folks
Abound in Africa
That their decades past servitude to colonialism
Is the foundation for their lack of nationhood progress
Hey! Blame it on colonialism!
What else!
That monster!
But nothing can be wrong with our ways and approach, right?
They lie to themselves following decades of independence
So so ridiculous!
Come on, PEACE!
And many more
You know them for sure
Come on, PEACE!
You know there is more to my list
You know it like you know the crux of my gist
Come on, PEACE!
Flex your muscles and overcome
You can be unstoppable
Don’t even pretend like i’m making this all up
You are real and can rise up
You can dominate
Come on, PEACE!
Rise and roar like the helpful lion you are
Flow like a river to:
Liberia
Nigeria badly needs you too
Please do not forget the Congo Democratic Republic
The Ivory Coast and Mali are waiting
Somalia and Sudan also need to suckle your teats of peace
Libya is hungry for you
Central Africa can’t be left out
How can i ever suggest you neglect Afghanistan?
Iraq and Syria. The Ukraine
And one more
The ones that have been waiting for you for so long
You know them!
Do i need to mention them?
Come on, PEACE!
It’s Israel and Palestine
Don’t forget them
Rise!
Act!
What!
Come on, PEACE!
I know you can do it
Sleep no more!
